Discover El Chaltén with hikes, unforgettable landscapes, and the best views of Patagonia—all in a single day.
If you love hiking, breathing fresh air, and feeling like you’re in the heart of the real Patagonia, you’ll love El Chaltén.
The National Trekking Capital is just a few hours from El Calafate, but the trip is worth every kilometer.
We’ll pick you up at your lodging starting at 7:30 a.m. and set off along the legendary Route 40.
For about three hours, we’ll drive through the steppe, past lakes, and through the mountains, with the Andes gradually coming into view on the horizon.
And yes… the journey itself is already part of the adventure.
Halfway there, we’ll stop at the historic Parador La Leona.
It’s a great time to stretch your legs, learn a bit about the place’s history, and—if you’re tempted—try some of their artisanal pastries. 😋
Then we continue on.
Because the mountains are waiting for us.
And now, let’s go hiking!!!
Our first hike takes us to the Mirador de los Cóndores.
The trail offers a pretty great reward: from the top, you’ll have an incredible panoramic view of El Chaltén and the surrounding mountains.
And look up. 👀
With a little luck, the true rulers of the Patagonian sky might appear above our heads:
🦅 The condors.
After the hike, we’ll head back to town so you can explore it at your own pace.
You can take the classic photo with the “El Chaltén” sign, stroll through the streets, explore its hidden corners, and enjoy a included lunch.
🥤 Drinks are not included.
And after lunch…
We still have one more hike to go.
We head back into the Patagonian Andean forest to reach Chorrillo del Salto, a beautiful waterfall hidden among trees and mountains.
A peaceful trail, nature all around, and a great excuse to take some more photos. 📸
After a full day of hiking, scenery, town life, and mountains, we set off on our return journey.
We arrive around 7:00 p.m.
Probably tired.
Probably happy.
And with our phones full of photos.
