Sail past the Upsala and Spegazzin glaciers for an unforgettable experience.
Hop on the catamaran and get ready to sail among giant icebergs, mountains, and majestic glaciers. You’ll discover two of the main attractions of Los Glaciares National Park: Upsala and Spegazzini.
And yes: they’re even more incredible in person.
The adventure starts early. We’ll pick you up at your hotel starting at 7:15 a.m. to head to the private port of Punta Bandera, about 47 km from El Calafate. (IF YOU BOOK WITH TRANSFER INCLUDED)
8:30 a.m.: boarding
9:00 a.m.: catamaran
departure 4:00 p.m.: return to the port
approx. 5:00 p.m.: return to El Calafate
Once on board, get settled, grab your camera, and enjoy the ride. Lake Argentino takes care of the rest.
We’ll sail along the North Arm of Lake Argentino and pass through the Boca del Diablo, the natural entrance to this part of the lake.
Then comes one of the most incredible moments of the tour: the Upsala Channel.
This is where the stars of the show appear: the icebergs.
Depending on sailing conditions, the catamaran will navigate between enormous blocks of ice so you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Upsala Glacier.
📸 Tip: Have your camera ready. You never know which iceberg will pop up.
We continue sailing toward the Spegazzini Channel.
First, the Seco Glacier comes into view, and a few minutes later, one of the trip’s highlights arrives: the front of the Spegazzini Glacier, the highest in Los Glaciares National Park.
Its ice walls can reach approximately 140 meters in height.
And it’s not alone: from the catamaran, we’ll also be able to see the Heim Sur and Peineta glaciers.
The adventure doesn’t end on the catamaran.
We disembark at Spegazzini Base and head into the forest along a trail that’s about 300 meters long—easy to walk and dotted with lookout points.
The trail takes us to the Spegazzini Refuge, with incredible views of the bay.
Want to walk a little further?
There’s also the option to take the mountain trail, a moderate-difficulty hike that winds through the forest and offers even more scenic overlooks and landscapes.
After enjoying Spegazzini Base, we return to the catamaran to head back to Punta Bandera.
A full day of sailing + glaciers + hiking + Patagonian scenery.
And probably lots of photos that you’ll look back at later and think, “Was I really there?”
